I am so sick of flies. Every year our house is invaded by them. Our first summer here they were all over the place. Our basement was filled with them. We had to spray and spray and spray to get rid of them all. Of course when you kill that many of them you tend to have to clean, clean, clean. Thankfully my dh doesn't mind cleaning cause I was fat and pregnant with Bman and didn't want to clean at all.
Then the following year they were bad but not nearly as bad as they had been. Last year wasn't too bad but this year they seem to have their own way into our house. Maybe it's just the fact that when my husband is home with the kids, he doesn't reinforce close the door with them.
We even went and bought a screen for the sliding glass door but it gaps at the bottom and doesn't keep them out from there. It's a screen that just hangs with velcro on the side and magnets in the middle. See we have an odd shaped door and you can't find one that fits without having to have it custom fit and goodness knows I'm not spending that kind of money on a screen that will get broken with two young kids.
I wish I could find something that repels flies from wanting to come in the house. I hate sitting here at my computer and having them land on me constantly. It's gross. Then when I get the fly swatter out they disappear. I am really good at killing them though. Dh laughs some days when he comes home and sees me at it.
Of course I don't think it's funny. If he would just learn to keep the door shut. That reminds me. He was in the garage playing with the kids one day and he left the garage door to the kitchen opened. He though since the large garage door was shut he'd be fine. He forgot that we have the trash can for the soda cans sitting right outside the kitchen door. Sweet sticky soda all over the cans. That means when the large garage door is opened they fly in and congregate there. Then when the kitchen door is opened they fly right in the door. I was killing flies all day that day. Needless to say he knows to keep that door shut now.
Ack, I hate flies.

You know what they say about ants? Draw a chalk line and they won't pass... maybe it would work with flies! J/K (obviously)
I swat at flies with an old towel - they drop dead from the whip lash. ;-)
We had that problem at my moms house, it is so annoying! I wish I knew some tricks to get rid of them, but don't! Hope they learn to keep the doors closed so that you don't have to deal with them so much!
