For those that don't know my 4 year son has a very limited vocabulary. He gets speech help through our local school district. Unfortunately since we moved, has been without that help for 3 weeks, going on 4. He was progressing quite well with his previous teacher and it was such a blessing.
This evening, my parents were here for dinner. It was my dad's birthday so I thought I'd invite my parents for dinner. While I was getting dinner ready, I heard B upstairs screaming. As you know a mother's instict is to run to find my child and make sure he's not hurt. I get upstairs and he's at the attack door crying and crying. I said, B what's the matter. He says to me, "Daddy up, E E too, mama." The sound of that one sentence made me want to cry too. Seems he was upstairs in the attic with my dad and my husband and his brother, whom he calls E and couldn't behave to Pappy made him come back down and he didn't like that. He has used small sentences like that and he's used those words but something with that whole sentence, just touched my heart. Okay, it may have been that he called me mama and I love the name mama.
Later on after dinner my mom and dad and hubby and I were sitting around the table when B came running down the stairs and says, mom boo, boo. I said did you get a boo, boo? He said no, up, boo, boo and points to his leg and then up. So I got up and went up with him, here my nephew who came over with my parents hurt his knee and B knew he had a boo, boo and wanted me to come make sure it was okay.
It just amazes me that for a child who cannot put the sounds together to form a sentence and words all the time, sure can communicate in other ways. It never ceases to amaze me that he tells me so much in so few words sometimes.
He just recently started to say you too to me when I say I love you. I was so touched the night he said that to me. Made me want to cry.
